Philosophy and Methodology
The method creates a visible path from a question to a decision. Give people a shared surface, make each idea easy to move, and keep the group focused on the next useful choice. The structure matters because it lets the team see what it has considered and what it will do next.
Instructions for the Visual Storyboarding Template
Step One
Gather the PDF, a pad of 3×3-inch notes and a pen for each person. A group of two to twenty people can work well when there is enough open surface for roughly ten to twenty notes per person.
Step Two
Define the topic as one word or short phrase, then state the context the group is trying to solve. For a hypothetical example, a team might ask how to create a steadier flow of qualified conversations over the next month.
Step Three
Brainstorming. Ask each person for seven associated words, one per note, and place the notes on the shared surface. Keep the first pass open so the group can see the range of ideas before judging them.
Step Four
Categorize and prioritize ideas. Read each note, group related ideas, name the categories, and place the categories in priority order. Then prioritize the notes inside each category using a shared question or rating scale.
Step Five
Create action plans. Divide into groups of five or fewer. Have each group define one or two issues, name the actions, choose a champion, and put a deadline under each action step. Photograph the plans and share the written version with the people responsible for them.
Step Six
Schedule a follow-up to track implementation. Review what was completed, what changed, and which decision needs another conversation.
