One Page Business Plan Template

Planning sketch on paper with a pen across a concept plan.

A one-page business plan is a compact decision document. It gives an operator one place to state who the business serves, what it offers, which priorities matter now, and how the team will know whether the plan needs to change.

Begin with the customer or client you are choosing to serve and the problem your business is equipped to solve. Keep the description specific enough that a colleague could recognize a good opportunity and a poor fit.

State the position

  • Audience: name the client, market, or relationship the plan is for.
  • Promise: describe the useful outcome or experience you intend to provide.
  • Difference: state the capability, point of view, or service choice that makes the promise credible.

Choose the priorities

List the few actions that deserve attention in the planning period. For each one, name an owner, the next observable step, and a review date. A priority without an owner or a next step is an aspiration rather than an operating choice.

Define the measures

Use measures that help the team learn. A measure might be a completed conversation, a response time, a delivered piece of work, or a client decision. Record the context with the number so the team can distinguish activity from useful progress.

Record constraints and decisions

Write down the budget, capacity, timing, dependencies, and assumptions that shape the plan. When an assumption changes, update the page and explain which priority or action moves with it.

Make the page usable

Keep the language plain and the layout easy to scan. Review the page with the people who will use it, remove fields that do not guide a decision, and leave a visible space for the next review date. The template should help a team choose what to do next, not become a filing exercise.
